Terms of use

The agreement for using The Quiet Hour: who it’s for, what stays yours, and the law that applies.

Last updated 1 November 2026

In short

Free to use

Nothing to buy and no ads. If anything paid ever arrives, you’ll see the price first.

Your notes stay yours

Everything you write is private, and kept only so the app can back it up for you.

Brew with care

Lessons are general guidance. Take care with hot water, and check cafe details before you go.

These terms

These terms are the agreement between you and The Quiet Hour for using the app and this website. By using either, you accept them. The privacy policy explains how your data is handled.

Who can use The Quiet Hour

You need to be 13 or older. If you’re under 18, you need a parent or guardian’s permission to create an account, and they accept these terms on your behalf.

Your account

An account is optional. If you create one, use an email address you can reach and keep your password to yourself: you’re responsible for what happens under your account. Tell support straight away if you think someone else has used it.

You can delete your account at any time, in the app or by email. The support page shows how.

Your notes and reviews

Your tasting notes, brews, ratings, cafe reviews and other entries belong to you, and no one else can see them. If you have an account, you give The Quiet Hour permission to store and copy them only so the app can back them up and show them on your phones. That permission ends when you delete them or your account.

Keep other people’s personal details out of your notes unless they’re happy to be in them.

Using the app fairly

When you use The Quiet Hour, don’t:

  • try to get into another person’s account or data
  • copy the app’s content in bulk, or scrape or overload its servers
  • take the app apart, copy or resell it, except where the law allows
  • use it to break the law

The Quiet Hour may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.

Coffee information

Lessons, recipes, brewing guides and tasting notes are general information. Results depend on your coffee, water and equipment.

Brewing involves boiling water and hot equipment, so take care, especially around children. If caffeine affects your health, follow your doctor’s advice over the app’s.

Details of cafes, roasters and coffees, such as opening hours and prices, come partly from Google and from the businesses themselves, and can be out of date. Listing a business isn’t an endorsement of it.

Other services and links

The app links to services The Quiet Hour doesn’t run, such as Google Maps and roasters’ websites. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them.

If you got the app from the App Store or Google Play, that store’s terms apply too. Apple and Google aren’t responsible for the app or its support.

The Quiet Hour’s content

The app’s lessons, illustrations, recipes, writing and design belong to The Quiet Hour or are used with permission. You may use them for your own brewing and learning, and pass them on with the app’s share buttons. Anything else, such as copying, publishing or selling them, needs permission first.

Price

The Quiet Hour is free to use and has nothing to buy. If paid features are ever added, their price and terms are shown before you pay, and nothing is charged without your agreement.

Changes, interruptions and ending

The app will change as it grows: features may be added, changed or removed, and it may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance. If the account service is ever closed, you’ll get reasonable notice, and what’s on your phone stays usable.

You can stop using the app at any time. Removing the app clears what’s on your phone; deleting your account removes your backup too.

No warranty

The app and website are provided as they are and as available. As far as the law allows, The Quiet Hour makes no promise that they will always work, be free of mistakes or suit a particular purpose.

Limits on liability

As far as the law allows, The Quiet Hour isn’t liable for indirect or unforeseeable loss, or for anything outside its reasonable control.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law doesn’t allow to be limited, including your rights under India’s Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India decide any dispute about them. Before going to court, email support so the problem can be worked out.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. If you keep using the app after a change, the new terms apply; if you don’t agree with them, you can stop and delete your account.
