Common questions
Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. You can read lessons, explore the Coffee Atlas, use the tasting wheel and brew without signing in. An account only syncs your notes and saved items across devices.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone with iOS 16.4 or later, and Android phones with Android 7.0 or later.
How do I choose what to learn first?
Start on Home and tap the coffee bag, or open Learn and pick any of the seven areas. Each lesson stands alone, so you can start anywhere.
Brewing and the timer
The timer stopped when my phone locked.
The guided timer keeps the screen on while a brew is running. If your phone locks anyway, open the app again and choose Resume: your brew pauses at the moment you left and nothing skips ahead.
Can I change the Kasuya 4:6 recipe?
Yes. On the 4:6 screen, set your coffee dose, how sweet or bright you want the cup, and how strong. The pours update before you start.
My cup tastes sour or bitter.
Sour or thin usually means grind finer or use hotter water. Bitter or drying usually means grind coarser or a little cooler. Every method page has a troubleshooting section for its own quirks.
Tasting notes, saved items and sync
Where are my tasting notes?
In My Coffee. Notes are saved against the coffee and the brew they came from.
My notes are not on my new phone.
Notes move between devices only when you are signed in to the same account on both. Sign in on the new phone and your notes come across on their own.
Does the app work offline?
Saved recipes, saved coffees and downloaded lessons work without a connection, and the brewing timer never needs one. The Coffee Atlas map and search need a connection.
Something is not working
The app crashes or will not open.
Update to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play, then restart your phone. If it still happens, email support with your phone model, system version and the app version (Settings › About).
I found a mistake in a lesson.
Thank you. Email the lesson name and what looks wrong. Corrections are checked and published in the next content update.
